BIOPYRANIA aims to develop innovative and sustainable solutions for the polymer sector, with the ambition of reducing environmental impact and facilitating the transition towards a circular economy. The project aims to produce new classes of polyamides (PA) and polybenzimidazole (PBI) from biobased aromatic monomer, synthesized from acids obtained from second-generation (2G) woody biomass. Only safe, non-corrosive solvents will be used in this process, ensuring sustainability even during production. The ultimate goal is to provide high-performance, environmentally friendly alternatives to fossil fuel products, responding to growing industry demands and European sustainability regulations such as the Sustainable Product Initiative (SPI). New polymers, for strategic sectors such as electric mobility and clean hydrogen, will help reduce dependence on fossil resources, promoting a more sustainable and technologically advanced future.
Objectives

Address EU Sustainable Product Initiative (SPI) requirements for environmentally friendly and high-performance materials
Create sustainable alternatives to fossil fuel-based products
Develop new classes of polyamide (PA) and polybenzimidazole (PBI) polymers from biobased pyrazine
Create sustainable production processes without toxic or corrosive solvents
Synthesize pyrazine monomers from biomass-derived building blocks
