On 7 July 2026, BIOPYRANIA was showcased during the “Spaceship Earth” lecture series, organised by Saarland University, as part of its commitment to promoting sustainability, innovation and the transition towards a circular bioeconomy.
The lecture, entitled “Microbial Upcycling of Biomass and Waste Streams for a Bio-Based Circular Economy”, brought together approximately 60 participants, including students from different study programmes and guest attendees.
During the presentation, BIOPYRANIA was highlighted as a practical example of how innovative research can be successfully transferred from the laboratory to industrial application. The project illustrated the importance of advancing Technology Readiness Levels and improving Key Performance Indicators to bridge the gap between research and market uptake.
Particular attention was also given to the role of Techno-Economic Analysis and Life Cycle Assessment in assessing the feasibility, sustainability and potential impact of bio-based technologies, demonstrating how these tools support the development of solutions for a circular economy.
By featuring BIOPYRANIA in the “Spaceship Earth” lecture series, Saarland University continues to foster dialogue between research, education and innovation, raising awareness among future scientists and professionals about the opportunities offered by sustainable biotechnology and circular bio-based value chains.
