BIOPYRANIA has successfully achieved Milestone 2 – First batch of 10 g DMDPP to UM, led by B4Plastics.
This marks an important first step in the upscaling of the biobased aromatic monomer(s) synthesized from acids obtained from second-generation (2G) woody biomass, one of the project’s key technologies. The monomers will be used to produce new classes of polyamides (PA) and polybenzimidazole (PBI) as high-performance, environmentally friendly alternatives to fossil fuel products. These novel polymers consequently respond to growing industry demands and European sustainability regulations such as the Sustainable Product Initiative (SPI).
This milestone focused on the delivery of 10 grams of biobased aromatic monomer in month 2 to partner Maastricht University for the development of new polymers, promoting a more sustainable and technologically advanced future in strategic sectors such as electric mobility and clean hydrogen.
B4Plastics will further focus on optimizing the synthesis protocol of the aromatic monomers to increase yield, decrease resource use and minimize safety risks and energy consumption.
