About BIOPYRANIA
With a Consortium of 13 partners from 9 European countries, the BIOPYRANIA project aims at creating sustainable, safer, and biobased end-products, to surpass the performance standards of traditional fossil fuel-based materials, offering a viable and eco-friendly alternative.
What we do
The BIOPYRANIA project is aligned with key sustainability initiatives, including the Sustainable Product Initiative (SPI) and the BioEconomy Strategy and Action Plan. Our goal is to develop two innovative classes of high-performance biobased polymers to drive change in various industrial sectors. These polymers will be used in two main applications: biobased PBI anion exchange membranes for electrolyzers and fuel cells, and biobased PA for components in electric vehicles.
About the approach
In order to help implementing the goals of Circular Biobased Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE-JU) and to take on global challenges, BIOPYRANIA unites partners with diverse expertise in fields such as Chemical Synthesis and Engineering, Materials Science, Knowledge Management, Environmental and Metabolic Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Social Sciences, Innovation, and Feedstock Sourcing and Refining. By bringing together these disciplines, the project aims to achieve a more significant impact in developing a diverse portfolio of high-performance biobsed polymers than if pursued individually. A key strength lies in combining academic innovation with industrial solutions, as exemplified by the collaboration between academic partners, SMEs and industrial end users. This synergy enables the project to achieve its goals, present results to a broad audience, and scale up solutions according to industrial best practices
